Visitors to Annaberg-Buchholz in the Erzgebirge find themselves in a real mining town. Important finds of silver still characterize the town and its inhabitants.
Handicrafts such as lace-making, whittling and passementing are just as much part of Annaberg as the commemoration of the mathematical genius Adam Ries. In the Erzgebirge Museum and in numerous workshops, visitors can find what has become world-famous as ‘Genuine Erzgebirge Handicraft’.
Annaberg-Buchholz also captivates its visitors with such sights as St Anne’s Church, the largest late Gothic nave church in Saxony, and the famous cultural monument Frohnau Mill. At Christmas, hundreds of miners in historical costumes celebrate their traditional customs in impressive parades.
