Kamenz is full of poetry.
Gotthold Ephraim Lessing was born in this little town in Upper Lusatia, and ‘Lessing’s town’ has honored its famous son with the annual Lessing Festival in January and February. Visitors can also chat about the turbulent life of the poet while enjoying a Lessing-Törtchen cake in the Literature Museum or eat in exactly the same restaurant – the ‘Goldener Hirsch’ – where Lessing’s baptism party took place.
The town is also well-known among musicians because of the stage in the middle of a botanical treasure – the Hutberg stage, surrounded by hundreds of rhododendrons and azaleas in a blue park forest..
