Zittau, the most south-easterly town in Germany, unites the idyllic atmosphere of the small town with a living history and a picturesque landscape.
Just outside its gates, the Zittau Mountains are a paradise for hikers and climbers with their striking mountain Oybin, the Lusatian Hills and the Jeschken and Iser mountain ranges.
The completely preserved town center of Zittau is also wonderful, with its numerous architectural monuments, one of which is the Church of the Holy Cross. This is home to the ‘Great Zittau Lenten Veil’ from 1472, one of the most impressive textile works of art in medieval Europe. There is also a smaller but just as precious Lenten Veil from 1573, making Zittau the town of the Lenten Veils.
