Full steam ahead in the land of the railway
Discover and experience narrow-gauge Saxony
Saxony has been steaming for 125 years. Nowhere else in Germany has as many steam trains as here, making it a real paradise for lovers of the railway. The venerable old trains climb to the highest town in Germany, Oberwiesenthal in the Ore Mountains, and carry their passengers through the romantic scenery of the most north-easterly wine-growing area in Germany. In the north they introduce their visitors to Oschatz, one of the oldest towns in Saxony, with what was once the largest narrow-gauge station in Europe, in Mügeln. Happy puffing can also be heard in the triangle where the three countries of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic meet – in Upper Lusatia, when the old steam trains reach the peaks of the Zittau Mountains. All in all, a whistle-blowing experience for locomotive-lovers.
